DOUBLE CROSS – Time after time TB-Records
Rating: 9.2 out 0f 10

Double Cross, only a further of average Melodic Rock/Metal volume? Far been missing, because but this album is simply too strong. The British prove on their beginning that they are the AOR traditions of the island on highest level further to lead in the conditions. Rich Chase, which former singers von Mama's Boys as well as Graffiti and its fellow combatant (ex musician von Liar, Prowler and 2 the 4) have twelve Songs composed, which press the bent Melodic fan already almost the joy tears from the eyes. Strong melodies and great Hooklines leave a lasting impression. Songs like "Reach out", "Touch the sun", "Valley OF the kings" or "time after time" are not to be gotten definitely no more from the going eye courses raus. The knackigen guitars dominate, leave however always sufficient place for the solid, but unobstrusively used key boards. Above all however the strong, clear singing causes regularly wohlige goose skin. The Backing Vocals was contributed by another master of its subject, i.e. from Magnum's Bob Catley. Then Double Cross exist the comparison with this Melodic legend also with Bravour. Candidate to the AOR Newcomer of the year! Chris C. Points: 9.2 of 10

DOUBLE CROSS – Time after time TB-Records Double Cross, nur eine weitere Durchschnitts Melodic Rock/Metal-Band?

Double Cross: Time After Time Score 92/100
Pretty d**n impressive, that was the first thought that crossed my mind when I opened the promo package of U.K.-based A.O.R.-band Double Cross. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen too often anymore that a band sends a nicely packed full-colour information booklet with a biography, the most recent reviews, interviews and articles and a personal letter to accompany the complete package. Nowadays, if you’re lucky, you just get a link to a website where you have to retrieve all the information yourself. The first impression that you get when seeing the information package of Double Cross is one of professionalism, of a band who clearly knows what they are doing.
Of course a professional look and feel of a band’s promo-kit is a very important aspect of the total picture, but most important is still the music that is to be found on the album. And it has to be said: also the music on this release is absolutely topnotch. Even stronger, I dare to say that this ‘Time After Time’ easily wipes out the majority of the melodic rock albums that are put on the market nowadays. Then the question arises: what are the important assets that make this record so special compared with most of today’s releases? Well, first of all the song material is of excellent quality and of course this still remains the foundation for a good album. The twelve songs on offer here are characterized by great catchy melody lines, which you just can’t get out of your head after a few listens. Furthermore there’s a lot of variety to be found among the different songs, which accounts for the fact that boredom will just not set in, a phenomenon with which many A.O.R.-acts suffer nowadays. The following songs deserve a special mention: the powerful opening track ‘Reach Out’, the mighty fine ballad ‘When Two World Collide’, the Eastern tinged ‘Valley Of The Kings’ and ‘Don’t Walk Away’.
Secondly, vocalist Rick Chase possesses a very pleasing and crystal clear voice, which fits the musical style perfectly. Rick, whose voice sometimes reminds me of a great singer like Johnny Gioeli (Hardline, Axel Rudi Pell), has no problem whatsoever in singing both the heavy as well as the more ballad-like material. For me he’s definitely one of the better melodic rock vocalists coming from the British isles.
Thirdly, guitar player Stephen Kelly is taking his step into the spotlights by delivering great riffs and many excellent solos. Without degrading the other members of the band, he prominently takes care of the fact that this record on one side catchy and melodic, but on the other side also remains quite heavy.
Last but not least Double Cross makes excellent use of background vocals (with a little help from Magnum’s and Hard Rain’s Bob Catley among others), without losing the heaviness in the song material. Of course also the great production job helps in this aspect.
In conclusion I can say that I’m very impressed by this record and that Double Cross can be seen as one of the future icons in the melodic rock genre. England’s A.O.R.-hope in difficult times? It wouldn’t surprise me a bit! Fact is that the band has delivered a truly fantastic album with this ‘Time After Time’.

Double Cross - Time After Time
(TB Records) Total Time: 59:52
Another excellent melodic British band in the vein of DARE,TEN, and more recently PRIDE. DOUBLE CROSS is a British hard rock band dedicated to melodic rock. Although they follow the musical path of the bands I mentioned above, they have the strength and the ability to put some new ideas to their music. Without being innovators they keep the traditional melodic hard rock flame burning, putting some mew sticks in to the fire. The fresh melodies and excellent vocals are going to attract the fans who, in the past, enjoyed bands like WHITE LION. Guitar driven hard rock with more than a melodic edge for the new generation of AORsters. Here you are.

Comments:
Great new UK outfit with ex Mamas Boys/Grafitti vocalist Rick Chase. Rick is superb and is a kinda Danny Bowes goes aor. At times I can even hear a bit o' Freddy Mercury. Could these guys be the saviours of the UK Aor scene. Well lets not label them with that just yet. (what ever happened to Passion Street and Newman?) A Huge album for fans of Pride,Magnum, Ten, and Dare.Bob Cately also makes an appearance on backing vocals. Buy!

Review Taken from www.medazzarock.com
English Translation:
Those among you who love the classic AOR I present here a real pearl. DOUBLE CROSS, an UK based five piece melodic rock band, was formed from the former members of Leicester based rock band LIAR. On their perfect produced debut album TIME AFTER TIME Pete Lakins great keyboard melodies combine with the excellent guitar work of Stephen Kelly. Then comes Rick Chase (ex. Graffiti) with his beautiful voice, followed by Gareth Franks on the bass and Steve Philpotts on the drums. As a special extra, there is Bob Catley (Magnum) who chips in the backing vocals on two songs. The Quintet plays with power and passion, which you can hear on every track. The CD is full of catchy melodies, beautiful harmonies and excellent arrangements. The high level exists fortunately till the end and because of that it's very difficult to single out several songs. I would note the rocking opener REACH OUT or WHEN TWO WORDS COLLIDE. The latter is the perfect melting love song. The best song for me on the album is VALLEY OF THE KINGS. A track with beautiful oriental elements, which tells about the exploits of Howard Carter, who found the grave of the Pharaoh Tutanchamun in the valley of the kings in 1922. The first word, which crosses my mind while I'm listening to this CD, is "lovely". It begins with the melodies and harmonies and ends with the squiggly fonts and the photos with a soft-focus effect in the booklet. For my taste all this is a bit too clean and too honest. This album has no rough edges. But for all the AOR fans out there is TIME AFTER TIME a must have record. This CD would never belong to my top ten, but I recognized the potential and therefore I give all the same 8 points (Karin) –

Double Cross - Time After Time
TB Records (TBCD0109)
Review taken from www.hardrockhouse.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.hardrockhouse.com/NewReleases/DoubleCross.htm
Steve Cummings (our esteemed web master) sent me this CD to review, as he knows of my love of all things AOR. On the first listen my initial thoughts were that 'Time After Time' sounded like an old album by Dirty Secrets/Salamander Joe (local bands that played around Newcastle in the late 80 early 90’s and were featured in Wimpwire on at least one occasion.) However on closer inspection and, after doing some research, the album was recorded and released back in 2003. In fact the band are still promoting this release even now with support slots recently with both Danger Danger & also with Dokken (you can check out the review of Double Cross' show with Danger Danger in Crewe via this link)
Although at the start of this review I stated that 'Time After Time' sounded like an old album, this is not altogether a bad thing as this is surely the best British AOR album I’ve heard in months, if not years. The songs are predominantly keyboard led, with the guitars of Stephen Kelly adding stunning overlays of sounds and he’s certainly no slouch when it comes to solos as well!
Double Corss vocalist Rick Chase has been around the block once or twice (including stints with both Mama's Boys and Graffitti) and has voice ideally suited to the sort of music that Double Cross purvey. Further listens to the album brought to mind British AOR hero's of days of yore such as Indiscreet era FM, with a touch of early Dare thrown in for good measure, but with a cleaner production job than those esteemed bands possibly had. There are traces of more modern British bands such as Ten and Pride to be found in Double Cross' sound and they also really remind me of The Promise. In fact if this had been around ten years ago I think this would have been right up Mark Ashton’s boulevard and I could have seen them playing the Gods round that time, as the sort of music played would appeal to anybody who attended any of those early Gods festivals.
Although this review does not contain a track by track run through of all of the songs on offer, I really feel that this album does not need one, its that good! If you like the first Ten and Dare album then I can heart fully recommend 'Time After Time to you! With a little bit of luck we may even see the lads on the live circuit a bit more in the future.
